CRS Releases 2013 Seminar Highlights Through Website

CRS 2013 highlights are now available at www.CountryRadioSeminar.com.

For those that missed this year’s event, which took place Feb. 27 – Mar. 1, there is an opportunity to capture some of the highlights by visiting the official CRS website here.

Some of the highlights include:
-       A wrap-up edition of CRS-TV, hosted by veteran TV personality Amy Marsalis.
-       An overview of the research presentation, as compiled by Edison Research.
-       Panel handouts for five key panels.
-       A photo gallery, which includes images of performances, educational panels and networking events.
-       An online store to purchase CDs from some of this year’s sessions.

CRS 2014 will be held Feb. 19 – 21, 2014, in Nashville, Tenn.  Registration will open July 1, 2013.

Songwriters Take The Spotlight At CRS 2013


(Nashville, TN – March 5, 2013) During this year’s Country Radio Seminar, artists and songwriters performed for radio and record executives at showcases and after hour events throughout the week. Events included WCRS Live!, sponsored by BMI and Country Aircheck; KCRS Live!, sponsored by ASCAP and City National Bank; and Bob Kingsley’s Acoustic Alley, sponsored by Country Top 40 and co-sponsored by Suntrust Bank. These events gave hit songwriters the opportunity to be in the spotlight and perform the songs that many of the radio programmers attending had played throughout the year.

Country Radio Seminar Increases Attendance For Fifth Straight Year


(Nashville, TN – March 4, 2013) This year’s Country Radio Seminar experienced a 3 percent increase in attendance, compared to CRS 2012. This is the fifth consecutive year the event experienced a growth in attendee numbers.

A total of 2,995 registrants attended this year’s event, which was held February 27th – March 1st at the Nashville Convention Center. The figure comprises of 2,276 full registrants (attendees, exhibitors, panelists and sponsors), and 719 participant registrants. Participant registrants are defined as attendees that register for individual CRS events or purchase single day passes only.

Bill Mayne, CRS Executive Director stated, “The industry has been very positive about this year’s Country Radio Seminar. With the introduction of new and additional special events this year, there was a new enthusiasm surrounding the event. We have already put on our thinking caps for CRS 2014.”

CRS President Mike Culotta added, “We felt that there was a new vitality to the event with the addition of the Grand Ole Opry at CRS and The Cleveland Clinic Heart Labs Inflammation Testing. In addition, this year’s agenda offered so much for so many to enjoy.”

CRS 2014 will be held on February 18 – 22, 2014 in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Registration for next years Seminar will open July 1st, 2013.

Edison Research Co-founder and President Larry Rosin delivered one of Country Radio Seminar’s 2013 research studies in front of a packed house, providing an in depth look into the lives and attitudes of Country radio fans and their interactions with the medium.

 

Cumulus Radio Medical correspondent and Emmy® award-winning CNN chief correspondent, Dr. Sanjay Gupta was Friday’s featured speaker. Gupta addressed attendees in an effort to help raise awareness about important health issues.

New Faces Of Country Music Show Closes Out Country Radio Seminar 2013 With Performances and Suprise Guest


(Nashville, Tenn – Mar. 4, 2013) Country Radio Seminar’s annual New Faces of Country Music Show closed out CRS 2013 on Friday, Mar. 1 at the Nashville Convention Center.  The show was co-sponsored by the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), Country Aircheck and the Academy of Country Music (ACM) and featured performances by Easton Corbin, Florida Georgia Line, Brantley Gilbert, Jana Kramer and Kip Moore.

In addition, the evening featured a surprise appearance by Taylor Swift, who took the stage to lend her support to Florida Georgia Line, who will open select dates on her RED Tour, which kicks off March 13th.

2013 Country Radio Hall of Fame Inductees Announced


(Nashville, Tenn. – Oct. 3, 2012) The CRS Board of Directors has announced the class of the 2013 Country Radio Hall of Fame in both the Radio and On-Air categories. 

Gaylon Christie is the Radio category inductee, and Dr. Don Carpenter, Crook & Chase, Eddie Edwards and Bill “Dex” Poindexter are the On-Air category inductees.  The class of 2013 will be officially inducted at a dinner ceremony on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at 6 p.m. CST at the Nashville Convention Center.  The Country Radio Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony unofficially kicks off Country Radio Seminar each year.  CRS 2013 is held Feb. 27-March 1, 2013.

The Country Radio Hall of Fame is dedicated to the recognition of those individuals who have made significant contributions to the radio industry over a 20-year period, 15 of which must be in the Country format.

“Induction into the Country Radio Hall of Fame signifies a lifetime of excellence and achievement, and this year’s class of inductees personifies those qualities at the highest level,” said CRS Hall of Fame Committee Chairman Charlie Morgan.

About the 2013 Radio Category Inductee:

Gaylon Christie – Gaylon Christie is a Holland, Texas, native with a 50-year history in the Country radio business.  His career began as a teen DJ at a Temple, Texas, radio station and included stints as a station manager, executive manager and long-time owner of a Country station serving the Fort Hood area.  In 2000, Christie sold the station, but continued as a DJ at KUSJ until 2004.  Christie currently lives in Nolanville, Texas, with his wife Jane.

About the 2013 On-Air Category Inductees:

Dr. Don Carpenter – Born in Tulsa, Okla., Dr. Don Carpenter left his career as a veterinarian more than 30 years ago for a career in the Country radio business.  His first job came at KFSB in Joplin, Mo., with stops in Tampa, Des Moines and Pittsburgh before landing at Detroit’s WOW-FM, which would later become WYCD.  In addition to hosting his “Dr. Don Morning Show,” Carpenter has written “The Dr. Don Prepsheet” for almost 20 years.

Crook & Chase – “Crook & Chase Radio” launched in 1987 with the nationally syndicated “Crook & Chase Minutes,” hosted by Lorianne Crook and Charlie Chase.  In 1989, the pair was chosen to host TNNR’s weekly 4-hour “Nashville Record Review,” which aired nationally and internationally in Japan, the UK and parts of Europe.  Now in their 25th consecutive year on national radio, Crook & Chase continue to host “Crook & Chase Countdown,” which can be heard on more than 225 radio stations in the U.S. and overseas.

Eddie Edwards – Eddie Edwards’ Country radio career began in 1971 and includes work as an on-air personality in eleven different cities, including Nashville, Los Angeles and New Orleans.  Edwards has served as a DJ at New Orleans’ WNOE for nearly 20 years.  He has received the “DJ of the Year” award from the CMA, ACM and the Gavin Report and played harmonica on stage for acts including Brad Paisley, Vince Gill, Sawyer Brown, Gary Allan and more. 

Bill “Dex” Poindexter – A native of Chattanooga, Tenn., Dex began his radio career in high school, but has been part of the US-101 afternoon show since 1994.  One of the original hosts of “The Dave & Dex Show,” Poindexter currently co-hosts the station’s “The Dex & Mo Show” with Melissa Turner.  They were honored with the CMA’s Radio Personality of the Year Award in 2010, marking Dex’s third time receiving the honor.

Highlights from the CRS 2013 agenda include two major research presentations (sponsored by CMA and CRS), three label luncheons and performances (UMG, Capitol/EMI, Black River Entertainment) the WCRS Live! CRS Unveils First Look at 2013 Agenda, Featured Speakers

(Nashville, Tenn. – Sept. 24, 2012) Country Radio Seminar has unveiled a preview of its 2013 agenda, with an emphasis on offering attendees even more prominent industry experts next year, including a new, featured daily speaker initiative.

Highlighted by a strong focus on technology, social media and learning to adapt in an ever-changing marketplace, the CRS 2013 agenda is loaded with expert panelists, informative research and more industry-leading speakers than ever before.  Early confirmed speakers include broadcast consultant and talent coachValerie Geller (Geller Media International), brand management and social media marketing pro Jeff James and talent experts from The Center For Sales Strategy, Beth and Matt Sunshine.

Panel Moderators Announced For CRS 2013


Two moderators returning from last year’s seminar

(Nashville, Tenn. – Aug. 27, 2012) Five Country radio industry veterans have been named as CRS 2013’s core panel moderators:

Ken Boesen – Operations Manager, WKIS/Miami
Beverlee Brannigan – Operations Manager, Journal Broadcast Group/Milwaukee
Dan Halyburton – Business Development at Texas State Network, CBS Radio/Dallas
Todd Schumacher – VP/Market Manager, Cox Media Group/Louisville
Matt Sunshine – Executive VP, The Center For Sales Strategy/Plano

Beverlee Brannigan and Dan Halyburton return as moderators from last year’s seminar. Halyburton is serving for the third year in a row, while Brannigan returns for her second year.

Ken Boesen, Todd Schumacher and Matt Sunshine are making their debut appearance as moderators. Collectively, the CRS core moderators oversee and direct the bulk of the educational panels over three days at CRS 2013, held Feb. 27- March 1 inside the downtown Nashville Convention Center.

“We’re so excited to announce the five core moderators,” says CRS Agenda Committee Chair Annie Sandor. “I have the utmost respect for all of them and get more excited with each call. They bring so much to the table and will enhance the great panels the Agenda Committee has put together for CRS 2013.”

Reminder: Submit Your 2013 Country Radio Hall of Fame Nominations Now!


Nominees must return applications back to CRS offices by Friday, Sept. 7

(Nashville, Tenn. – Aug. 20, 2012) Nominations for the 2013 class of the Country Radio Hall of Fame are now open, with only a few weeks remaining to submit individuals for consideration. 

Submit online nominations here at www.CountryRadioSeminar.com.  Upon accepting the submission, Country Radio Seminar officials will provide the nominee with an official application.  That application must be filled out and returned to the CRS offices by Friday, Sept. 7. Applications received after Sept. 7 will be held for the 2014 Hall of Fame class.

Nominees may include air-checks, press clippings, awards listings and other materials for consideration.  These materials will not be returned to applicant.  A selection committee of Country radio and industry veterans, as well as members of the Country Radio Hall of Fame, determines each year’s Hall of Fame class.

The 2013 Country Radio Hall of Fame Dinner and induction ceremony will be held Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at the Nashville Convention Center.  The event is often regarded as the unofficial kick-off to Country Radio Seminar.

On-Air Personality Hall of Fame Criteria:

* Must have at least a 20 year on-air career in radio, minimum of 15 in the Country format.
* Significant contributions to the growth and development in the Country radio industry and ongoing contributions to the preservation and enhancement of Country music as an art form.

Radio Hall of Fame Criteria:

CRS 2013 “Crazy Days of Summer” Are Here!

(Nashville, Tenn. – June 26, 2012)  Country Radio Seminar is celebrating the “Crazy Days of Summer” with a special, limited time $349 registration rate.  The rate is available July 2 through July 31 or for the first 349 registrants, whichever comes first.

A New Faces of Country Music Show ticket is included with CRS registration until the Friday night showcase event sells out.  The New Faces show has sold out in advance the past two years.

“Our $349 rate is part of a continuing effort on behalf of CRS to make our seminar as affordable as we possibly can, especially when the prices of everything else in our lives seems to be skyrocketing,” says CRB Executive Director Bill Mayne.  “We believe the education, networking and entertainment provided at CRS is an experience that everyone should have access to.”

Following the expiration of the “Crazy Days” promotion, the CRS $399 Early Bird Rate will be offered through Nov. 30.  The $499 Regular Rate takes effect Dec. 1 and remains open until CRS begins on Feb. 27, 2013.
