Ty Herndon Releases New Single, “Stones,” Prepares Album For 2012 Release

Ty Herndon Releases New Single, “Stones,” Prepares Album For 2012 Release

Unreleased track from previously shelved album finally sees light of day

(Nashville, Tenn. – Nov. 14, 2011) FUNL Music/Flying Island Entertainment artist and Grammy-nominated singer Ty Herndon has released “Stones,” the lead single from his anticipated new studio album, due out in early 2012.

Herndon originally recorded “Stones” for a project that was completed several years ago but never released.  While searching for new material for his upcoming album, however, Herndon rediscovered the song and decided to re-record it.  The updated version impressed the chart-topping Country singer so much that he decided to release “Stones” as the album’s lead single.

“The song ‘Stones’ is really a metaphor for all of those defining moments in our lives that we are faced with,” says Herndon.  “Like the lyrics say, ‘from the cradle to the grave, our lives are paved with stones.’  I’ve always felt it was such a remarkable and thought-provoking song, and it’s really stuck with me through the years.  I’m just thrilled that I’m finally able to share it with my fans.  I can’t think of a better song to release as the first single from my new album.”

“Stones” is the first new music released by Herndon since his critically acclaimed, award-winning 2010 album, Journey On.  The project earned a Grammy nomination in the Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album category and won a Dove Award for the inspirational duet, “When We Fly.”  The “Journey On” title track was also selected as the signature song and music video for the national nonprofit ALS organization, The Kevin Turner Foundation.

“Stones” is going for adds at Country radio now.  After shipping via digital delivery service Play MPE on Nov. 2, the track finished as the most downloaded and streamed song of the day in Play MPE’s Country format.

“Stones” was written by Jimbeau Hinson, Kim Tribble and Jon Michaels.  Preview and purchase “Stones” via iTunes here or at Amazon.com here.

(Nashville, Tenn. – Sept. 8, 2011)  Former NFL player Kevin Turner and Country artist Ty Herndon were on hand Sept. 1 at Boston’s Fenway Park to help present a check to the ALS Therapy Alliance for $4.3 million.

In June 2011, Turner and Herndon were named celebrity spokespersons for the 10th annual CVS/pharmacy “Researching A Cure” ALS fundraising campaign.  The campaign ran June 5-25 to help raise funds for ALS research and benefit the ALS Therapy Alliance.  Herndon’s “Journey On” video (view here) features Turner and was incorporated into the CVS/pharmacy in-store video spots, which ran in approximately 7,200 CVS/pharmacy locations.  Funds generated by this year’s campaign bring the total amount raised so far to more than $27 million.  Visit www.ALSTherapyAlliance.org for more info.

Campaign co-chairs Treg Charlton and Barry Winovich were also in attendance for the check presentation.  Charlton, a regional director of real estate for CVS Caremark, and Winovich, a childhood friend of Charlton, both suffer from the ALS disease.

Turner’s own non-profit ALS organization, The Kevin Turner Foundation, staged a private fundraiser in Nashville, Tenn., on June 18 that raised more than $100,000 for ALS research.  Diagnosed with ALS in May 2010, Turner formed the foundation to help raise awareness about the connection between concussions and the ALS disease and to generate funds for research.  Visit www.KevinTurnerFoundation.org for more information.

(Nashville, TN – June 20, 2011) Country artists Ty Herndon and Amber Hayes were on hand this past weekend to help former Alabama and NFL player Kevin Turner raise just over $100,000 at a private Nashville ALS fundraiser event.

Held Saturday, June 18, at a private estate in Brentwood, Tenn., the fundraiser was attended by more than 250 people, including numerous current and former Alabama and NFL players and coaches.  Herndon and FUNL Music label mate Amber Hayes performed at the event, which included two auctions featuring collectible sports memorabilia and jewelry, a cigar tent, food, drinks and appearances by current Clemson coach and former Alabama receiver Dabo Swinney and legendary Alabama coach Gene Stallings, among others.  Herndon’s Grammy-nominated “Journey On” project is the official song and video of the Kevin Turner Foundation.

Turner, who played professional football for eight seasons in the ‘90s with the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots, was diagnosed with ALS in May 2010.  In October 2010, the Prattville, Ala., native formed the nonprofit Kevin Turner Foundation to help raise awareness and money for critical ALS research and the emerging connection between ALS and concussions. Country Artist Ty Herndon and Former NFL Football Player Kevin Turner Join CVS/pharmacy and ALS Therapy Alliance in National Campaign to Fight ALS

Country Artist Ty Herndon and Former NFL Football Player Kevin Turner Join CVS/pharmacy and ALS Therapy Alliance in National Campaign to Fight ALS

Tenth annual fundraising event to run June 5-25 in 7,200 CVS/pharmacy locations

(Nashville, Tenn. – June 6, 2011) Country artist Ty Herndon and former NFL football player Kevin Turner have been announced as honorary co-chairs for the 10th annual CVS/pharmacy and ALS Therapy Alliance (ATA) “Researching A Cure” ALS fundraising campaign.

As co-chairs, Herndon and Turner appear in the CVS/pharmacy “Researching A Cure” in-store video and radio spots, running June 5-25 in approximately 7,200 CVS/pharmacy locations across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.  Herndon’s inspirational “Journey On” song and video are also featured prominently in this year’s national fundraising campaign, which raises awareness about the ALS disease and encourages CVS/pharmacy customers to donate $1 at the checkout register and online to help fund critical ALS research.

“Journey On” is the title track and most recent single from Herndon’s Grammy Award-nominated and Dove Award-winning album, Journey On.  The uplifting message of the song caught the attention last year of former NFL football player Kevin Turner, who was diagnosed with ALS in May 2010.  “Journey On” has since become the official song for Turner’s nonprofit ALS organization, The Kevin Turner Foundation, and is a natural fit for this year’s “Researching A Cure” campaign, says Turner, who also stars in the official “Journey On” music video with two of his children.

“Ty and I are both really excited about our involvement with the ‘Researching A Cure’ campaign,” says Turner, who played eight seasons in the NFL with the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles.  “We’re extremely appreciative of the opportunity to partner with CVS/pharmacy and the ALS Therapy Alliance to raise awareness about this horrible disease, and hopefully ‘Journey On’ will connect with people and urge them into action the same way it did for me.”

Says chart-topping Country artist Herndon, “When I wrote ‘Journey On,’ I was writing about some of the personal struggles that I was experiencing in my life, but in the last year or so, I’ve come to realize that this song has a universal meaning that can be applied to virtually any kind of challenge that people may be facing.  Kevin really opened my eyes to that, and we are committed to working with CVS/pharmacy and the ATA to opening everyone’s eyes about ALS.”

Since 2002, CVS/pharmacy has raised nearly $24 million for ALS research through its partnership with the ALS Therapy Alliance.  In addition to the CVS/pharmacy in-store video and radio spots, individuals may visit www.ResearchingACure.org to learn more about this year’s fundraising efforts and view the “Researching A Cure” video or make a donation.

“We at CVS/pharmacy are proud to have former NFL running back Kevin Turner and Country star Ty Herndon joining us this year to help raise awareness about ALS,” said Jon Roberts, executive vice president for CVS Caremark.  “I know how difficult it can be to fight this terrible disease, and I’m amazed by Kevin’s courage and Ty’s commitment to fundraising for ALS research.  The stories of those suffering from ALS have an impact on all of us at CVS/pharmacy and our customers.  I want to thank them for creating awareness of ALS and motivating CVS/pharmacy customers to donate to this very important campaign.”

“The ALS Therapy Alliance is delighted to join forces with Kevin Turner and Ty Herndon in this effort to raise new funding for ALS research.  Thanks to CVS/pharmacy, our research program has benefited scores of ALS scientists and laboratories.  This new partnership will certainly enhance the research program,” said Dr. Robert Brown, who heads the Scientific Advisory Board of the ALS Therapy Alliance.

ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is a neurodegenerative disorder that is characterized by progressive degeneration of motor nerves in the brain and spinal cord, typically leading to paralysis and death within four to six years.  There is no known cause or cure for ALS, which affects approximately 25,000 Americans, with 5,000 new cases diagnosed each year.

For the week ending Dec. 12, Herndon’s new “Journey On” video garnered enough views on CMT.com to make it one of the five most-watched videos on the entire website, allowing it placement on CMT’s High 5 Video Countdown.  “Journey On” is the first video to land on the countdown without already being in rotation on the network.

“Journey On” is the signature song for The Kevin Turner Foundation in its campaign to fight ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.  The video opens with a personal message from Turner, a former Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots NFL football player who was diagnosed with the disease in May 2010.  Herndon and Turner first met earlier this year at an ALS benefit, which resulted in a music video being shot in Nashville by renowned directors Flick Wiltshire and Steven Goldmann.

The “Journey On” video is currently available for purchase at iTunes, with all proceeds benefiting the Kevin Turner Foundation and its efforts to fund research for an ALS cure.  Donations are also accepted at www.KevinTurnerFoundation.org.

Herndon’s Journey On album was recently nominated for a 2011 Grammy Award in the “Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album” category.  The Inspirational-Country project has already earned the singer a 2010 Dove Award for the song, “When We Fly.” The highly personal album also marks Herndon’s debut as a songwriter, having co-written every song on the project.

Ty Herndon’s 15-year career has produced more than four million album sales and multiple No. 1 singles on the Country charts, including “What Mattered Most,” “Living in a Moment” and “It Must Be Love.”  Among his eight studio albums and 17 charted singles are the Top 10 hits, “I Want My Goodbye Back,” “Loved Too Much,” “A Man Holding On (To a Woman Letting Go)” and “Hands of a Working Man.”
