Emerging artist, Ava Suppelsa, is set to release her self-titled debut EP on Friday, February 10th. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation for those who suffer with substance addiction.
The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation is close to Suppelsa’s heart; her father received treatment for alcohol abuse at HBFF when she was 14 years old.
“I want people to know that what I write about in my music is true and comes from the heart,” said Suppelsa. “I chose to support the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation through this project specifically because of the story behind, ‘Finish Line;’ it’s about witnessing alcoholism in a loved one and their journey to recovery. I hope this song, as well as the EP, can be inspiring to others.”
Produced by Suppelsa with Colin Lester Fleming and Dick McVey, the EP features four tracks written by Suppelsa including the track, “Finish Line,” and also features focal track, “He Told Me,” in which Suppelsa often refers to as the “sassiest” material she has written to date. The recording process was split between Herd Studios in Boston, Mass. and TMC Studios in Nashville, Tenn. The EP will be available on iTunes.
Suppelsa, who currently resides in Boston attending the prestigious Berklee College of Music, plans to relocate to Nashville this summer to further pursue the country music scene and will be opening for Clay Cook (of Zac Brown Band) in Boston this February. She has earned the winning-title in numerous singer/songwriter competitions including the Great American Song Contest, the American Songwriting Awards, and more.
A self-taught guitarist, Suppelsa began performing original material at the age of twelve in the greater Chicago area. In 2013, Suppelsa accepted a coveted position in the singer/songwriter program at Interlochen Arts Academy moving away from her hometown of Evanston, Illinois. Her experience at IAA lead Suppelsa to perform in extensive venues such as Club Nokia in Los Angeles and The New World Center in Miami before opening for indie singer/songwriter, Andrew Belle.
In 2014, Suppelsa got the chance to work alongside talent Josh Groban, Chris Young, and Desmond Child; she was also invited to Los Angeles by The Grammy Foundation to perform with the Grammy-nominated, Hunter Hayes.
