Sells Interests in Blue Hat Records to Focus on Philanthropy and
Expanding Support for U.S. Military Veterans

(Nashville, Tennessee – August 12, 2025) David Corlew, longtime manager of the late country music legend Charlie Daniels, has announced a renewed and expanded focus on causes benefiting our nation’s military and first responders. While Corlew remains deeply connected to the music community, he has sold his interests in Blue Hat Records to devote more time to the philanthropic mission that has defined much of his career over the past decade.
Corlew will continue in his role as President and Executive Director of The Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project (TCDJHP), a nonprofit organization he co-founded with Daniels more than 10 years ago to support the return, rehabilitation, and reintegration of servicemen and women back into civilian life. In the years since Daniels’ passing, Corlew has carried the torch, forging partnerships with organizations that share the same mission, including The Shepherd Center, Operation Song, Charlie Five Equine Therapy, and The Special Forces Community.
“This is not a retirement or step down from music,” says Corlew. “It’s a redirection of energy and passion. I’ve spent years working with one of the most talented artists in the world, and I believe there’s an opportunity for those worlds – music and mission – to intersect in even more meaningful ways.”
That connection was recently reflected when The Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project honored the Grand Ole Opry for its longstanding support of the United States military and its dedication to uplifting veterans and service members. The recognition marked yet another example of how Corlew continues to bridge the gap between the music industry and impactful causes, celebrating institutions that amplify both tradition and service.
Corlew has been on the frontlines of veteran advocacy for 20-plus years and says he’s seen a shift in the need, describing the current state of veterans’ needs as “generational.”
“There’s an enormous need in our country right now, not just for our veterans and our first responders, but also their families,” Corlew shares. “It’s a call I feel deeply. I’m dedicating this chapter of my life to helping meet those needs.”
The life-changing work of The Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project is evidenced in a recent statement from Vanderbilt/VA Medical Center, highlighting how donor support has translated into groundbreaking medical care for veterans.
“In 2019, the Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project made a significant donation to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to aid U.S. military veterans battling cancer. This donation funded enhanced software, quality monitoring, and other administrative costs associated with providing CAR-T treatments to veterans at the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System’s Nashville VA Medical Center. The crucial support from the Journey Home Project helped enable the Nashville VA to perform the very first CAR-T treatment to take place at a VA hospital. Since then, the Nashville VA has performed almost 100 CAR-T cell therapies on veterans – and is still the only VA in the country that performs this lifesaving treatment.”
In addition to his expanded philanthropic efforts, Corlew is currently working on a forthcoming book that will detail his life in the music business, his relationship with Charlie Daniels, and his unwavering mission to support America’s heroes.
The Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project exists to help identify, support, and implement the varied needs of veterans returning from service. From healthcare and education to employment and mental health, the transition back to civilian life can be complex and challenging. The organization partners with vetted foundations and organizations to ensure that every donated dollar is maximized to deliver real impact.
