Shane Yellowbird Celebrates U.S. Album Release of “It’s About Time”

“Bare Feet on the Blacktop” announced as lead single and video

(Nashville, Tenn. – Oct. 20, 2011) Canadian born artist Shane Yellowbird is celebrating the release of his critically acclaimed U.S. debut album, It’s About Time, distributed through On Ramp Records.

Released nationally on Oct. 18, It’s About Time includes Yellowbird’s debut U.S. single and video, “Bare Feet on the Blacktop,” written by ASCAP Songwriter of the Year Ashley Gorley and chart-topping songwriter and producer Frank Rogers.  The single is at Country radio now.

The rising international talent has enjoyed enthusiastic response to the song at his shows and festival appearances this summer.  To date, the “Bare Feet on the Blacktop” music video has garnered more than 150,000 views on YouTube.  View it here.

“‘Bare Feet on the Blacktop’ is a lot of fun, both lyrically and on stage,” says Yellowbird, a full-blooded Cree Indian and member of the Samson Cree Nation.  “I’ve had so much fun performing it all summer and the crowds at all the festivals have shown a real positive reaction to it.”

Yellowbird’s previous album, Life Is Calling My Name, charted four consecutive Top 10 Billboard singles in Canada (“They’re All About You,” “Pick Up Truck,” “I Remember The Music” and “Drive Me Home”) and earned him the Rising Star of the Year award at the Canadian Country Music Awards.  Following its release, he appeared on the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, where he performed one of the album’s chart-topping Canadian singles, “Pick Up Truck.”

Yellowbird grew up on an Indian reservation in Alberta, Canada, where he learned the rodeo circuit and cowboy lifestyle from his parents.  Born with a pronounced stutter, however, Yellowbird discovered his love of music as a child in speech therapy sessions, when his therapist suggested he try singing his sentences. The technique spurred Yellowbird’s interest in music and helped direct the young sketch artist and aspiring hockey player to pursue a career in Country music instead.

In 2007, Yellowbird received the Aboriginal Entertainer of the Year award at the Aboriginal People’s Choice Awards and won Best Country Recording at the Native American Music Awards.  In 2008, Life Is Calling My Name received a nomination at the Juno Awards for Country Recording of the Year.
