The video, directed and shot by Oceanna Colgan, opens with Reynolds inviting a journalist into her bright, vintage-style home for an interview about her deceased husband. Her appearance contrasts sharply with the haunting themes of the song, as she and others in the video are dressed in vibrant 60s-inspired attire, creating a vivid juxtaposition between the colorful visuals and the darker narrative unfolding within the lyrics. As she navigates the interview, Reynolds subtly reveals her deeper connection to the story, emphasizing that it’s all “off the record.”
Reynolds shares her excitement for the video release, saying “This video was so much fun to create. I went around vintage stores in Nashville and Dallas, Texas to find the outfits and scored on quite a few items! I have never played a crazy murderous woman, so it was fun to be able to challenge my acting skills. I think Oceanna did a fantastic job showing the story as well as bringing comedy into it.”
“Off The Record” is the title track of Reynolds’ debut album, which was released on September 20, 2024. The album delves into the complexities of love, loss, and the human experience. It marked a pivotal moment in the 25-year-old Florida native’s career, blending the spirit of Nashville twang with the energy of Texas dance halls, all while capturing her distinctive sound and personal journey.
