FUNL-Filled event to be held Tuesday, Oct. 19 at Mercy Lounge
(Nashville, TN – Oct. 13, 2010) Nashville-based independent label FUNL Music is hosting a special “double-feature” industry event on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the Mercy Lounge with artists Ty Herndon and Amber Hayes.
Each artist will perform short sets featuring material from their respective 2010 new releases. Herndon’s Journey On earned the chart-topping singer a Dove Award earlier this year for “When We Fly,” while Hayes’ current single, “C’mon,” is approaching Top 40 status on the Music Row chart.
“We believe both Amber and Ty are going to open a lot of people’s eyes at this event,” says FUNL Music President Tamara Alan. “They are unique artists with their own style and story to tell, and their talent is on par with most any artist on Country radio today. We put together this event as a way for our industry peers to come out for a FUNL-filled evening, enjoy some FUNL-cakes, and see that talent for themselves!”
Herndon, whose Country radio resume includes three No. 1 singles (“What Mattered Most,” “Living in a Moment,” “It Must Be Love”) and more than 4 million albums sold, took a figurative leap of faith with Journey On. The album marks Herndon’s first foray into songwriting, resulting in an album that Ty calls the most personal and spiritual project of his career. Having co-written all 11 tracks on the album, Journey On incorporates Herndon’s trademark Country sound with a modern Christian element as well.
The title track has been secured for an upcoming public awareness campaign and video to help fight ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). Former NFL player Kevin Turner, who suffers from the disease, heard “Journey On” and approached FUNL about using the track as the signature song in the campaign. A music video, filmed at the Tennessee Titans’ LP Field in Nashville, is currently in production for release.
Oklahoma native Amber Hayes celebrated the release of her debut EP on Sept. 1 with a live radio broadcast and performance on WSM 650AM’s “Station Inn Sessions.” Her current single, “C’mon,” has steadily moved up the Music Row chart and is poised to break into the Top 40 following a lengthy radio tour that took the singer to more than 80 stations across the country.
A talented theater performer, Hayes wrote much of the material for C’mon in 2009 while starring as Kathy Twitty in the traveling Conway Twitty musical, “It’s Only Make Believe.” Citing influences such as Barbara Mandrell, Dolly Parton, Jeannie Seely and Reba McEntire, Hayes incorporates a healthy dose of fiddle, mandolin and steel guitar into the project’s neo-traditional sound.
