Australian Government’s Council for the Arts Continues Investment in Nashville Community
(Nashville, Tenn. – August 30, 2017) – The Australian Government’s Council for the Arts has named Larissa Tandy as the recipient of the Nashville Songwriter Residency grant.
In its fifth year, the $15,000 grant is the result of a partnership between the Australia Council’s Music Board and Nashville-based expat producer and songwriter, Mark Moffatt.
“The Australia Council for the Arts continues it’s recognition of Nashville as the world’s leading writing and recording resource center in awarding Larissa their 2017 writer residency grant,” says Moffatt.
Throughout the residency, Tandy will reside in Nashville for three months, providing her the opportunity to work alongside the music community and further her network of artist and industry relationships. “Larissa’s writing combines a more alternative approach with the ability to craft melodies and lyrics that are a great fit for where commercial country is headed. I’m sure she’ll be quickly embraced by the local community,” Moffatt continues.
Tandy was humbled by the news of her win. “I really only have one ambition when it comes to music, and that is to write the best songs I possibly can. I’ve loved making records and touring, but I’ve never loved anything as much as I love collaborative writing. I’m excited to be here, and to have the opportunity to learn from the incredible songwriters in Nashville,” Tandy explained.
Hailing from rural Australia, Tandy came up from the underground of Melbourne’s world class music scene, mining her difficult life for poignant stories and spinning them into songs that can be heard on the radio in America, the United Kingdom and Canada, where the CBC named them as “songs you need to hear.”
With lyric abilities of Patti Smith and the cool vibe of Liz Phair, Tandy is paving her own way into the world of Americana. Her momentum only continues to pick up speed with the announcement of The Australia Council’s prestigious Nashville Songwriter Residency honor.
While in Nashville, Tandy will be performing on the following dates:
*Friday, September 8th at The Bluebird Café
*Saturday, September 16th at The Aussie BBQ
