(Nashville, Tenn. – May 21, 2018) – Author, Paul Allen’s new edition of his best-selling Artist Management for the Music Business has been published by Taylor & Francis and debuted over the weekend as the #lnew release on Amazon in its music book category. 

The fourth edition guides the career management of professional managers as well as self-managed artists and bands.  Allen says, “Anyone managing an artist’s or their own career, needs to be well-versed and have a savvy understanding of the moving parts of the music business. This book shows how and why those moving parts ‘move,’ as well as how to manage and navigate a music-based career.”

Perhaps most importantly, Allen says, “The realities of the music business and the sources of power in the music business are candid reflections of my experience that can help you avoid the quicksand that can bog your career down.” Artist Management for the Music Business is a comprehensive view of how to generate income through music and how to strategically plan for future growth. The book is full of valuable practical insights. It includes interviews and case studies with examples of real-world management issues and outcomes.

Updates to this new edition include the importance of online streaming to music careers, how anyone can effectively use networking for success, how to effectively negotiate, ways to manage income sources, and guidance on engaging the ever-changing social media landscape of the music business.

Allen is an associate professor in the Department of Recording Industry at Middle Tennessee State University.  His career includes service in the US Air Force, work in radio, television, government, political management, as executive director of Country Radio Broadcasters, and Academia.

Professor Christopher Palmer is a former executive with Warner Bros. who developed an interactive online course based on Artist Management for the Music Business. He works at Frost Online at the University of Miami where he teaches and mentors graduate students about the live entertainment industry. The course is available at www.artistmanagementonline.com.
