“Australia has emerged not only as a key market for Americana music but has also developed its own very strong roots music community with many of its artists recently attracting global industry attention. Sounds Australia has played a large role in building these bridges and accordingly the Americana Music Association once again extends a warm welcome to this year’s visiting Australian artists and industry delegates.”
Dobe Newton President of the Country Music Association of Australia and Sounds Australia representative adds –
“It’s an absolute joy and privilege to again be part of this very, very special event. The official artists chosen this year highlights the diversity of song writing talent and the engaging and dynamic live shows coming out of Australia.
The Audreys are made up of song writing duo, Taasha Coates and Tristan Goodall. Formed in Adelaide in 2004, they are now one of Australia’s highest profile roots bands. They have released three records, one in 2006 called “Between Last Night and Us”, another in 2008 called “When the Flood Comes” and “Sometimes the Stars” in late 2010. All three records have won its year’s ARIA Award for Best Blues and Roots Album, so they can’t be half bad. They like vintage clothes, anything on vinyl, drinking, touring and each other.
With songs about boozy nights, bad decisions, broken hearts and the best intentions, Brooke Russell and The Mean Reds blend country, blues, folk and swing to appease their love of all things vintage. Drawing influence from swing, alt country and trad jazz, the band are also inspired by the songs of Ryan Adams, Joe Henry, Gillian Welch, Tom Waits and Neko Case.
Having toured with The Lumineers, Of Monsters And Men and Passenger,Falls are fast developing an impressive live resume that also includes performances at Sundance Film Festival, SXSW and CMJ. In August 2014 they will be heading into the studio to record their debut LP due for release in 2015.
Part psychedelic folk, part country rock, Immigrant Union have been building their name through stellar live performances at some of the country’s most iconic venues and boutique festivals like Boogie and The Hills Are Alive. Consecutive years of performing at the Tamworth Music Festival has earned the group a reputation as the peculiar but beloved alternative country “out of towners” at Australia’s best know country music event.
The Mae Trio is a multi-award winning band, made up of three of the Australian folk scene’s most talented young songwriters, singers and performers. Sisters Maggie and Elsie Rigby (The Rainmakers) have teamed up with cellist Anita Hillman (Evelyn’s Secret). They perform an insightful collection of original songs arranged for ukulele, banjo, guitar, fiddle, cello, bass and superb three part vocal harmony. The trio are winners of the Folk Alliance Australia Youth Award 2013 and the Lis Johnston Award for Vocal Excellence 2011.
